BB Race Recap Lucas Oil

The Rockin K Logistics Big Blocks were in action on Monday Nov. 18th for Rd #5 from Lucas Oil Speedway. A total of 17 drivers loaded into the race server and posted a qualifying lap. Your QuickTime winner was the #21 of Garrett Boyd. Boyd time was a 14.864, 2nd was Patrick Cobb with a 14.932 and Greg Keppel was 3rd with a 14.957 sec lap.

Heat #1
Tyler Knauff would start on pole of heat #1 and would go onto lead 7 of the 8 laps. Anthony Morano started 3rd and would make the pass for the lead on the white flag lap to pick up the win. Knauff would finish 2nd and Tom Ostendorf 3rd.

Heat #2
After qualifying 11th, Matt Westfall would start heat 2 on pole with Jacob Schmutz to his outside. Westfall, Schmutz and Kevin Hanley would battle early in the heat for the top spot. Hanley would continue to work the bottom side of the track while Westfall and Schmutz were near the top. Schmutz went for the slider on the last lap but ended up finishing 2nd to Hanley with Westfall 3rd.

Heat #3
Shawn Grimes and Logan Wentz lead the way for the 3rd and final heat of the night. The first 4 laps of action were really good. All 5 drivers running right next to each other. Larry Moody and Wentz would make contact entering turn 1. No caution for the contact but it caused Wentz to fall back. Giovanni Mungin would get into the lead and battle with Grimes. At the end of the 8 laps it was Mungin over Grimes by .144 of a sec with Moody finishing 3rd.

40-Lap Feature
Morano and Hanley were the front row as the Rockin K Logistics Big Blocks 40-Lap feature took the green! An early caution sent the #73 of Moody to the pits. Morano had a good jump on the restart. Hanley and Schmutz were both right there. Tyler Knauff moved up to 4th by lap 7. Behind Schmutz and Morano you could throw a blanket over 2nd – 8th. Michael Farmer would make contact with the outside wall and break the front end. He tried getting his car off the track and into the pits but iRacing throw the caution. Restart on lap 17 would have Hanley your leader with Morano to his outside. Schmutz was 3rd with Garrett Boyd in the 4th spot.

At the halfway mark it was still Hanley out front with Morano in tow with Boyd running 3rd. Schmutz back to 4th with Patrick Cobb in 5th. Shawn Grimes and Matt Westfall were battling for 9th and 10th on lap 24 when Grimes made contact with Westfall. The contact wasn’t too bad but it did cause Grimes to become completely sideways on the track. Tom Ostendorf really had no where to go and make contact with Grimes cause Ostendorf to spin and bringing out the caution. Hanley and Morano would continue to work the top side of the track on the restart. But a few laps later Cobb, Ware and Mugin were all battling for 5th when Ware and Cobb got together causing Cobb to hit the inside tractor tire and Grimes making heavy contact with the outside wall.
Restart on lap-29 and for the first time tonight we mention Dylan DeWert Jr for the first time. DeWert started 16th and worked his way by his teammate for 3rd on the restart. Hanley was still your race leader. What’s that old saying? Cautions bring cautions! On the restart things got stacked up, Grimes would make contact with Keppel which upset Grime’s car then Ostendorf gets into the back of Grimes. Lap 34, Tim Nickels would make contact with the outside wall and cause him to miss the entry into turn 1. Nickels would half spin and take a trip through the infield, bringing out the caution. Restart with 5 to go still had Hanely out front with DeWert in 2nd and Morano in 3rd. This is how they would finish as well!
