BB Race Recap – Lanier

DSRL’s Monday Night Modified Series was at Lanier Speedway for Rd #3 on Nov 4th, 2024. A total of 16 drivers locked into the server and get ready for a 40-lap feature. Kicking the night off with your Quicktime Winner. SSR Elite driver and last week’s feature winner Kurt Ney topped the charts with a 14.433 lap time. The times this week were pretty impressive to say the least. The top 7 drivers were only .083 of a second apart!! Anthony Morano with a 14.503 and Dylan DeWert Jr with a 14.581 were your Top 3 qualifiers.

Heat #1
Logan Wentz would start off the heat race action and lead the field to green. Samuel Bachman and DeWert would start 2nd and 3rd. Wentz and DeWert worked the bottom side of the track in the opening laps of the heat. While Bachman and Ney went up top as they battled for 3rd and 4th. After several laps, Bachman was able to work the top line and get into 2nd on lap 6 and he just kept working the top side of the track and was able to get into the lead on lap 7 and pickup the heat 1 win. Ney was 2nd with Wentz finishing up in 3rd.

Heat #2
Your heat #2 pole sitter was Buddy Ware with Jacob Schmutz starting on the outside. Ware, Schmutz and Anthony Morano all quickly jumped to the top side of the track. Tom Ostendorf worked the bottom side in the opening laps as he battled Morano for 3rd. Ware moved to the bottom about 1/2 way the heat for a few laps then went back to the top. Morano was all over Schmutz but there was really no place to go. He went for the slider with 2 laps to go and just wasn’t quite there. Schmutz kept it on the top side as Morano hit the bottom coming to the checkers. Schmutz would pick up his 1st heat win of the season with Morano and Ware the top 3.

40-Lap Feature
After winning heat #1, Bachman would lead the field to green for 40-laps around Lanier Speedway. He would get the early jump and work the middle of the track on the open laps as Schmutz stuck with the top and Ney working the bottom. Other than Bachman it was 2 by 2 all the way through the field!! At lap 10 it was still Bachman out front with Schumtz and Ney still battling it out for 2nd. A little deeper in the field, Buddy Ware, Dylan DeWert Jr, Ryan Hines and Patrick Cobb are 4 WIDE as they battle it out for 6th- 9th. By the half way mark of the feature Bachman had a couple second lead on Morano with Ney, Wenz, Hines, Cobb all nose to tail. This group of driver all working the same bottom to a lane off the bottom as Bachman continued to work the high side.

We made it all the way to 26 before the first caution on the night! Wentz just barely taps the back end of Ney as they were working the bottom of turns 3 and 4. Wentz just about clipped the entrance to pit lane wall….he does end up hitting the inside wall and doing a graceful 360. This would move Wentz to back of the field, he was battling for 4th with before drawing the caution. So we are going to stack them back up and restart with 13-laps to go. Bachman still your race leader with Ney restarting on the outside. Bachman and Morano quickly to the top as Ney and Cobb to the bottom.

Caution #2 on the night comes out on lap-31. We are going to have to get a hold of Peter Breis and see exactly what happened with 74 car. Going off the replay seems like he might have had a technical problem. The front wheels seemed to lock all the way to left causing the car to spin. Now the we are under 10-laps to go. The field is single file on the restart. Your top 5 are still Bachman, Morano, Ney, Cobb and DeWert. Morano would make slight contact with the outside wall in turn 3. It wasn’t a lot of contact but enough that it would allow Ney and Cobb to get around. The last few laps of the 40-lap feature was all Ney and Dewert as those two battled it out for 2nd. At the end it was Ney getting 2nd with DeWert in 3rd.
